FIRST DAY FIRST' INITIATIVE CONNECTS CHILDREN TO THE JOY OF LEARNING
School box kit program connects essential school supplies to vulnerable children, classrooms and families in need.
LOS ANGELES, CA - As schools and communities face layoffs, drastic budget cuts, joblessness and homelessness, Moretta Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) launched an initiative and school box kit program to help children, classrooms and families in need. The school box kit program and education cafe events raise awareness about unmet needs and helps bridge resource gaps for children and classrooms that might otherwise have to do without. The initiative aims to inspire young children and reduce the lasting negative effects of deep budget cuts, teacher job losses, household unemployment, community foreclosures, increased crime, homelessness and youth homelessness.
- 85% of children in the nation participate in the federal free and reduced lunch program
- 37% of children in the country live at or below the poverty line
- Most of these children go to school without the supplies necessary to do their class work
- An average teacher spends between five hundred dollars and twelve hundred dollars of their own money to provide supplies for their students
- Many schools are underfunded and cannot provide the everyday school supplies used by students
Essential school supplies connect children to educational resources and the joy of learning. The kits are efficient, hassle-free and arrive pre-assembled with name brand products that are mom and teacher approved. The school box kit program engages local leaders, groups and online communities like StylishAttitudes.com, to make the difference for children, families and their classrooms.
